I’m Not in the Mood to Prospect

If you’ve ever not been in the mood to prospect…raise your hand.  Who hasn’t been, right?  I shot this video in response to an agent client of mine who emailed me that he was “not in the mood to prospect.”  So if you ever struggle with that, this video is a must-watch for you.

To summarize, here are 3 Powerful Steps that will help you “Get in the Mood.”

#1. Grow up!

Sorry to be so blunt…but you are in fact an adult, not a child.  Stop waiting for the right mood to sneak up on you and magically tele-port you into action.  It doesn’t happen that way.  Expecting the mood to just appear and suddenly make prospecting effortless…really?

Getting in the mood is the same process as becoming successful, just in miniature. You create success by taking action.  “The mood” doesn’t just suddenly appear, any more than success will suddenly appear.

You create “the mood” by putting yourself in motion and declaring the feeling you want to have and that serves you in achieving your goals.

#2. Think like a business owner.

Successful business owners act in spite of their mood.  You own your own business.  And if you are self-employed, that means you are also “self-bossed.”  What happens to a business if the employee doesn’t feel like doing anything AND the boss doesn’t feel like doing anything?  You are out of business, right!

When you started real estate, you became a business owner (and a boss…at least of yourself).  And the moment you became a business owner is the moment you gave up the right to have a bad day.  Being a business owner means that you have the responsibility to do the right thing regardless of whether you feel like it or not.

Something I learned from a mentor years ago: “It is easier to act yourself into a better way of feeling than it is to FEEL yourself into a better way of acting.”

Tony Robbins says, “Motion creates emotion.”  So the solution is to acknowledge your responsibility to take action and then GO…whether you feel like it or not.

#3. Connect your big goal to the action you’re not in the mood for.

The reason you get out of the mood to prospect is because you forgot why you go into real estate in the first place.  If you’re like most agents, you didn’t get in real estate because you loved prospecting.  You go in real estate so you could have a LIFE.

OK…so you’re not in the mood to prospect.  I get it.  Are you in the mood to have more income and abundance?  Are you in the mood to have a better life?  Then the secret is to connect the action you need to take to the result that you want.

The reason you get out of the mood is because you forget about WHY you do what you do.  What are the big goals that you ARE in the mood for?  Make the connection between that goal and the action you must take (remember that action you’re not in the mood for?  Yep…that action) to achieve the goals you have set.

The truth is that when you creatively avoid prospecting, what you are really doing is creatively avoiding your dream (big vacation, new house, financial freedom).  Re-connect your daily MMA’s (Money-Making Activities) with your life goals and dreams.  That will help you re-kindle the motivation (i.e. mood).  And then….

Grow up, get off your butt, take action…and get your dreams!
